Geospatial Consultants, LLC was founded by John Sanford. He has a Bachelors of Science in Geology from Montana State University and a Master’s of Arts in GIS from University of Montana. He has 17 years of geospatial analytics experience spanning various environmental, governmental, and oil and gas industries.

He has spent the most recent 2/3 of his career in the oil and gas sector managing a Geoscience and GIS Data Management and Software Implementation Team. Work that he and his staff were performing includes managing geoscience and GIS data, geospatial analytics projects, implementing geoscience/GIS software solutions, performing geologic mapping and interpretation, and assimilating disparate Geoscience, GIS, and engineering data into integrated databases. He has a wide variety of professional experience not limited to staff management, geoscience/GIS and IT project management, database integrations and data management, data analytics, well log review, core data review, geologic mapping, the NEPA process, environmental reviews, and wellsite permitting. Mr. Sanford has extensive knowledge of various complex geology, geophysics, and GIS software packages.

The first 1/3 of his career was spent in the environmental consulting industry working on a range of projects including geologic mapping, habitat mapping and analysis, ground water mapping, flood hazard analysis, NEPA work, etc.  With strong written and oral communication skills and professional environmental consulting and corporate energy sector management background, he exceeds expectations and consistently provides vital insights, flawless deliverables, and timely results.

Mr. Sanford opened Geospatial Consultants, in part, to deliver an easy, credible method of communicating economic and social impacts of legislation to policymakers. Pictures replace a thousand words. Data displayed on a map per legislative district and/or statewide—delivers an instant understanding of the problem or opportunity and it can be easy shared and cross promoted on social media.

He also realized the need for integrating disparate datasets into commonly shared data systems for state government, as well as environmental and oil and gas firms. These are focal areas of Geospatial Consultants along with any mapping and analytical needs of the clients.
